Thought of the Day: August 7, 2018 – Thousand Miles
When does a journey of a thousand miles begin?
I have contemplated this question numerous times but today after reading the credited quote of Lao Tzu, I decided to write my thoughts.
“Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
I know the journey begins when we decide to take the first step, but when do we decide? When we face with hard times? When we are ready to make a change? Perhaps when we are ready to reach our ultimate goals?
From my understanding, according to the Tibetan Book of the Dead, we decide our first step before we ever take birth to our parents. Our journey is one that we need to take. One that will take us through our karmic predicament.
Some say and believe that we are born a clean slate. We choose our journey. From the moment we are born to the day we die. We will continue to pick and choose the experiences we want to have.
This is the ability to have free will among the 7.5 Billion or so people.
To me the journey of a thousand miles begins the moment you and I decide to be reborn.
The reason I believe this is because I believe in reincarnation. I believe we continue to take form in a body in which we feel can help us achieve ultimate nirvana or enlightenment.
I believe once we decide on rebirth, every step, decision, set back and experience we choose to have is an adjustment on our journey.
After thinking about this, I came to a concluding you can’t start anything over again. You are already in the process. All you can do is make an adjustment to the way you are doing something.
Want to be a millionaire, help the poor, build a technology the world has not witnessed yet? This is your path to success.
You can take many steps on your path and their will be many forks in the road. But before you could start the journey, a decision was first made. You and I had to take birth to accomplish this goal.
This was the first step in the thousands miles. After the decision each step is the adjustment based on where we feel we are to where we want to be.
What is your thought on this?
Do you believe that you can start a journey of a thousand miles more than once?
Are you like me? Do you believe all the changes, decisions and experiences we have to be adjustments to where you and I ultimately want to go?
