Planning a Juice Cleanse?
Growing up you may have heard the importance of eating your fruits and vegetables. How many of us really want to or eat the recommended daily amount?
A juice cleanse is a lot easier than eating 10 fruits and/or vegetables daily.
Have you tried juicing or do you know someone who has?
Today you are “X” amount of days into or away from the next new year. Good thing is you can still start the process to reach your health goals.
So, how are your health goals going?
Have you been going to the gym or for those after dinner walks?
Are you eating the correct about of protein, carbohydrates and fats for your health and fitness goals?
Do you feel bloated after eating a heavy meal?
Maybe you should consider a juice cleanse.
Have you heard people telling about their experience after a cleanse? The ups and the downs. Going to the bathroom or having that “Cleaned Out” feeling.
Yes, that will all happen to you. You can experience different emotions as your body does a spring cleaning.
Why Do A Cleanse or Detox?
I am not a doctor and can’t tell you if a juice cleanse is right for you or not. I recommend talking to a health professional such as your doctor before you begin. Make sure it is safe for you to do a cleanse before you begin a juice cleanse.
A few months ago, I felt I needed to restart my system. The solution was easy for me. I was going to do a juice cleanse.
I have done juice cleanses over the few years and know the benefits it provides my body.
Scientifically put, I wanted to clean out my intestines.
You may be asking, why would anyone need to do this? This is a good question.
After you eat a meal, food is broken down in your stomach. After the food is broken down to a liquid base it is send to the intestines.
This is where absorption of vitamins, minerals and nutrient occurs. For you and I to be healthier, we have to allow the good food we eat the opportunity to be absorbed by our body.
Unfortunately, not everyone of us eat or live the healthy lifestyle we desire and our body requires a detox time to time.
Although a juice cleanse can help you, the secret is to not just do a cleanse but to change your eating habits for the future.
I recommend you take some time to do a meal plan before you start your cleanse. This will allow you to have the best chance of success when you go back to eating solid foods. The healthier food we eat the better our body will feel.
What Will You Experience
Everyone who does a cleanse will experience different side effects. Many people experience cravings and withdrawal from sugar and salt. Why is that? Good question.
What if I told you that sugar and salt are added to many of the foods we eat and they are addicting?
Would you agree with this statement or would dismiss what I am saying? Most people know this statement to be true.
The next time you go to the local grocery store read the labels of the food you are eating. You will see that salt, sugar or both are typically one of the top 5 ingredients.
Expect your body to not work as hard because you will be drinking liquid fruits and vegetables. Your body has an easy time digesting liquids. The human body works harder when it has to break down foods like pasta, meat and rice, which are staples in many people diet.
The human body is made up of water so it makes sense that is has an easier time digesting liquids over solid foods.
If you live in a cold environment like Canada, northern United States, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia or anywhere the temperature drops below zero, you will feel colder than normal. In winter, you will feel even colder. Why is that?
Eating solid food like meat, pasta and rice, helps the body stay warm as it works and burn calories to break down the food we eat. If you are cold and are uncomfortable then stop the cleanse.
You may experience tiredness because you are not eating or drinking the calories your body needs to operate. What your body will do is slow down your metabolism and try to conserve energy. This results in feeling tired.
Everyone is different and you many not experience a lack of energy. During a juice cleanse, it is a good time to relax the body, mind and spirit. You can add meditation to your daily habit if you wish. Here are various reasons I meditate and why I continue to.
Depending the amount of days, you do your juice cleanse, you will experience many different feeling. You many get headaches, lack of interest in certain things, you many feel moody or short-tempered, short-term weight loss, gassy, less bloated or hungry.
These are all normal experiences. If you need to stop your liquid cleanse it might be a good idea to do so but if you can keep going comfortably, then do so.
My Juice Cleanse
Everywhere you look these days you see new healthy juice bars popping up. Although, there is nothing wrong with going to a juice bar and supporting the local business, I found that I wanted to control my cleanse.
I went online and checked out the different websites before I started my cleanse.
You could go to the website of most juice bar businesses and right on their site you can get instant access to the recipes for the juices.
Although they do not tell you how much of each fruit or vegetable they use, you can gauge it pretty good.
Imagine going to the juice bar and spending $200 on a juice cleanse? Sure the $200 is worth it and you will feel better after you are done the 3-day cleanse but why spend so much?
You can do a similar juice cleanse at home for a fraction of the price. This does require you to go to your local grocery store and purchase the fruits and vegetables. Then you juice them.
On my cleanse, I preferred my drink to be fresh. So, I would only make the juice when I was ready to drink my next drink.
I did a 7-day cleanse where I used the Omega Juicer.
If you have never done a cleanse before I would recommend starting with a 1 to 3-day cleanse.
During the cleanse, I drank 2 liters of water. I also consumed Matcha Green Tea with no sugar or milk. Read this to find out why I consumed Matcha Tea and the health benefits.
Many of my morning, afternoon and dinner juices were the same. I drank a total of 6 drinks a day. Four juices, one Almond Milk drink and one Citrus drink.
- Green Apples, Carrots, slices of Ginger, Mint, Parsley, Spinach, Cabbage, Cucumbers, Celery sticks, Matcha powder and Chlorella and Spirulina.
I divided the combination into 4 drinks. Each being 310 ml then I added 190 ml water.
I added 190 ml of water as I wanted to have a 500 ml drink for each meal.
- Almond Milk, Chia seeds, Cinnamon, Hemp seeds, Honey, Cacao powder, Mushroom blend powder, Maca powder, Mesquite powder, Guarana seed powder, Camu Camu and Himalayan salt.
I consumed 1 drinks a day. The honey provided me the sugar my body required. The Guarana powder gave me energy so I would not feel tired during the day.
- Lime, Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Honey, Cayenne pepper.
I would drink this juice 2 hours before bed.
I experienced different things during my 7-day cleanse. Some of which were:
- Having to restrain myself because I want to eat a few times during the cleanse.
- My feet and nose were cold. Normally I am very warm.
- At certain points, I could feel my hands were going numb.
- Hunger pains were normal after day 4.
- I was craving food but I was not hungry. Most likely it was my body wanting sugar and/or salt.
- I slept great for the most part.
- Clear thoughts and thinking.
- Fat Loss and overall appetite suppression.
Coming out of the Cleanse
Doing a cleanse is great and it can help your body, mind and spirit feel good. Do not make the mistake and think you can introduce solid food to your body after a longer cleanse.
If you are doing a 1 day cleanse, do your best to change your eating habits moving forward.
If you are doing a cleanse that’s 3 days or longer, I would introduce solid food back into your diet slowly and with a sense of purpose.
Breaking my Juice fast:
- Lentil soup.
- Almonds and Cashews.
- Kale salad. No dressing.
- Chicken Bone Broth.
- Raw vegetables like Carrots and Celery.
- Home made Kombucha.
- Pho – Vietnamese Noodle Soup.
I would recommend a cleanse to anyone but I cannot tell you the length of time that is perfect for you.
Sometimes we need to stop worrying and start living. You can do this by starting a juice cleanse.
You know your body and should listen to it before, during and after your cleanse. I have never felt bad after a cleanse and normally do experience the results I was hoping to achieve.
Cutting down on my craving, feeling less bloated, having clearer skin, cutting out sugar, salt and looking to a healthier diet are my reasons.
I have also tried different ways to get lean or loss some body fat. You can read more on how to get lean.
You can also read and follow my 6-week journey where I did the slow carb diet. I lost 10 pounds without working out and maybe your results will be better.
