Achieve More by Working Less
Do you wish you could work less and create time for the things you want to do?
Like many people today you are probably going to work between 37.5 to 60 hours a week. Based on statistics you are destine to do this for the next 25-40 years of your life.
You and I trade time for money. We trade our time for a “promise”. A promise from our respected company to take care of us in our old age. A promise that if we follow, “The Plan” all will be ok when we are old and receiving our government and company pension.
This is the plan that is set out to keep us working until the age of 65 years, or longer. The plan has no room in it for us to create time to do the things we deem important.
Too many of us work jobs we do not enjoy. We are more concerned with going home before the day is done and receiving a pay check. Many people are tired, stressed and burned out when they go home. They just don’t have the energy to spend quality time with family.
If you are one of these people, here are a few tips to help you boost your energy.
Like any successful business person or entrepreneur, creating passive income can be one way to overcome the time crunch you face. You and I can buy back our lives by creating an ongoing income which can help us create time for the things we desire to do.
If you want to live a life full of the things you want to do you can’t just work less. You have to work smart. This means to create time you will actually have to do more with the time you have.
Like I said, you will have to work smart. Look to examples of people living the life you want. This will give you an idea of what it will take to create time for what you want.
Many businesses started from humble beginnings. These people had a dream and they put their idea to work. They adjusted the plan based on the results they were getting and kept working hard till the business started to show promise.
Then they doubled down. Perhaps they got help, learned marketing and sales, made connections, changed suppliers, moved to a bigger office etc. No matter what they did, they bet on their business.
Something changed inside them but one thing is clear they had focus, drive and determination to follow their dream.
They found a way to unbalance work and their goals for the short term to have long term success. They wanted to work less and do more of what they desire.
Successful people do the right things daily. Here are 20 tips you can use and apply.
Our Hopes and Dreams
During your childhood you were told to not dream so big. You had to get your head out of the clouds and be realistic. Not everyone could be a success.
You were told you would not become, substitute your dreams here, a great athlete. One who is famous, rich and getting millions in endorsements.
What you and I were sold by our loved ones was the idea that we should go to school, study hard, get good grades, get a good job and work for a good company. We should stick to this plan until we can find a position that pays us more.
The truth is, like in sports, work has the same pyramid structure. The people at the top of their profession make the money. There is usually only one or two top performers on a team, as in a job. Usually only one or two people excel to the top level of each position.
The chances of making it big in a job are slim. There just are not enough positions of CEO, CFO, COO, Vice President and President for everyone. Not everyone is going to make millions of dollars like the top performers in the company.
Jobless rates, high debt ratios and people working jobs they don’t enjoy, is proof that jobs don’t work. If you are looking to control you time, a job will not usually allow you to accomplish that goal. You have to create time and the type of lifestyle you want to live.
Only a small percentage will make six figures or more. The vast majority of people will make the standard wage paid by the company for the position. Oh yes, companies will offer a small cost of living adjustment each year.
Take Care of the Basics
To gain your sense of security and build towards the future, first you must take care of your basic needs. This was discussed in detail by Abraham Maslow, click the link to read more.
If your are not happy with where you are, you must look for fulfillment outside of your working hours.
I’m not saying you need to quit your job but starting a side hustle may be the answer for many reading this.
Most people are willing to work harder for their dreams then the dreams of their boss. We all put effort into the things that provide us more opportunities, happiness and things that create time for us.
Overcome the Time Shortage
Again, don’t go up to your boss after reading this and quit your jobs.
Second, look for ways to be the best at your current job. Any skills you have attained there, look for ways to put those skills to work in your new side business.
The skills you learn in your business should be used to make you better at your job.
As you build your side hustle, take the income you make for it and invest it back into your business. It is important to grow your business so it can give you options of choice in the future.
When the right time in your business comes, take part of the equity and invest it into another income generating assets. Those assets will create an additional income which can be used to free up some time.
Right now you would be in the phase to create time.
This is just a small step in the direction. The goal is to create the kind of live you want. Where you control where you’ll go, at what time and for how long.
Working a job will never give you this kind of flexibility.
At this point in your business, you may want to network with others who share similar values. These people can be partnered with to help you expand your side hustle. Soon you will increase your income, increase your time and grow your business.
In turn, you can the people you network with, do the same. The goal is to work for mutual benefit. Unlike a job where everyone competes for the same promotion.
If you are new to the side hustle, business or self-employments world, one the things you can do is find a coach or mentor to guide you as you grow your business.

Change your Results
It is important to understand the difference between an asset and a liability. A asset should create equity for you. Collecting rent, on a rental property, is an example of an equity producing asset.
It is vital to understand that assets appreciate in value while liabilities depreciate in value. A car depreciates in value month after month, kilometre (or mile) after kilometre.
You lose money when you buy or investing liabilities.
Start a Business
Can you think of a business that you’d want to start if you had the time to do so? Maybe it’s selling a product or service that people need. Why wait to begin later? How come you don’t start now?
As the saying goes, time is of the essence so if you have not looked at the list from above I suggest you look at that list for some ideas.
Where do you spend you free time?
Instead of watching the hockey game, football game or new Netflix special, turn off the television and get busy working on your side business. You cannot create time by wasting time.
Did you know that people work harder for an asset they create versus working hard for the assets of their boss?
Can you spend 10 hours a week not watching television?
Can you commit those 10 hours to starting, planning and executing your business plan based on something you are interested in starting? You will need to figure out how your business will make money and how you can attract customers.
Use those 10 hours wisely each week. Know your value and the value of the product or service you are selling.
Find a way to leverage the products or services you provide.
Example an author writes a book one time. After the book is on the authors website, in book stores or on Amazon, the rest of the time is spend on marketing the book to create sales.
In the beginning the author may go to book stores, be featured as a guest on radio show, television shows and even podcasts.
The goal is to get the word out about the book. As people begin to read it they will recommend it to others. This was the case when I first read, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
The author leverages time to promote the book they wrote and that is what we need to do. You need to find ways to leverage your time. This is the only way to create time in your life.
You need to let others know what you are doing. As you build awareness of your products or services, your companies name and what you stand for, brand awareness will hit critical mass.
When this happens people will want to do business with you. Well, that is the hope if you create the right business, partnerships and message of what you are doing.
If you want to create time in your life you will have to do something that you have never done before.
Author, speaker and entrepreneur Bill Quain says, we can’t find balance in our life doing the say things we continue to do day in and day out.
This is the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing expecting different results.
You will not create time or the life you want if you do not take responsibility for your life.
What will you do starting today to create time and the life you wish to live?
