Thought of the Day: May 25, 2018 – How Do You Create Opportunities
What are you doing today to create opportunities for your future self?
In this changing world, which is moving at the speed of light, we need to keep our eyes, ears and hearts open to new opportunities.
Do you ever feel you are going through life and openings do not come your way? Are you getting frustrated because you work long hours and putting in the hard work but you never see results?
Although this is not a pleasant feeling, don’t worry, you are not alone. Millions of people all over the world feel the same as you. The difference is you are reading this and you will make a change, today.
The good thing is many people will look within and decided they want to create something different. Do you want to know their secret?
They did not sit around waiting for someone to give them what they want in life. They go out and create an opportunity where one does not exist. You have to get up and create a change in yourself, be cleaver and solve your problems, and those of others, by finding solutions.
To create an opportunity, you must understand the fundamentals.
- Say “Hi” to someone you have never met.
- Follow up “Hi” with any number for questions.
- Use a formula called F.O.R.M – Family, Occupation, Recreation and Message.
You must build a foundation on common interest. Ask people, “Are you from (insert city name)?”
You will find that most people are not from the same city as you. Ask them about the city they were born. Now the conversation opens up from there.
“What industry do you work in?” People love talking about themselves and what they do.
As the conversation continues, ask them of what their hobbies.
If you have found someone who you might be able to connect with, create the opportunity by asking for a business card. Let them know you would like to meet up for a coffee ect.
Create opportunities for yourself by getting to know people.
The more questions you ask the better you will be able to connect with people. Be sure to ask the right questions. You want to find out about the other person but you want to talk about yourself.
One thing I have always heard is, if you don’t like the ways things are going, you cannot wait for new opportunities.
They may pass you by if you are not looking for them.
You can create a new opportunity by getting up 30 minutes early every day. Then do something that will improve on your current circumstance.
New opportunities come to you when you do something you are passionate about. You can read from the newspaper, a blog, articles on Twitter a book or magazine and get some good ideas.
To create opportunities you have to get out of your comfort zone. You need to look at things in a different light. Look for ways to learn more, connect with more people and offer to help others.
You never know where this will lead you.
Take a minute and think about it, “What can you see yourself doing right now to create opportunities for yourself?”
Take advantage of where you right now are and create an opportunity for yourself. Pick up the phone, send an email, purchase a course you been holding off on.
Just do something and you’ll be happy you did.
