The Book – Who Moved My Cheese?
Opportunities can be found everywhere today. With all the advancement in technology, social media and online business it is no wonders so many people are starting their own online ventures and striking it rich.
They say when one door closes another open’s. The door is opportunity and it is open for you but only you can choose to walk towards it.
Who Moved My Cheese, by Spencer Johnson, M.D., is not only about a few mice and a maze.
The story turns us into mice and show the reader, in plain and simple language where we fault short. The story is about how we think and don’t think. It is about how we act and how we react to what happens to us in life. It covers our ability to get everything we want from life and not get what we want.
I believe the book is about your attitude. The better our attitude the better our ability to see opportunities even when the economy is slow.
What is Happening Today
Do you know there has been a revolution on the internet for almost 25 years?
The great thing about this revolution is that there is always room for more people to join.
Millions of people are starting a business online, they are growing and change the lives of billions of people. All the while they are creating and earning an income.
When the internet started companies like Facebook, Amazon, Shopify, Google, Alibaba, eBay, Netflix, Expedia, Uber, Airnb, Tencent, JD.com, and Twitter were not even competing in the market space.
But a few short years later they not only compete in their respective business segment, they are the leaders who are bringing about innovation.
Are you on social media, or are you waiting till the security of the internet is perfect before you start your account and take advantage of what Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or Pinterest have to offer?
Have you sent your first tweet or are you waiting till the next, “Twitter” comes along before you try it out?
I understand there will always be people who have their finger on the pulse and will create business as new developments keep coming out.
There are people who will use the products and services, that are being created, right away and there is always a segment of the population that waits till the price comes down.
There is a segment of society, which waits till 20% of the population has used the product or service, before they get on board. A small part of the population that will never change with the times not matter how easy, cheap or convenient.
It is all too easy to stay in your comfort zone all allow things to change around you. Change can be hard or easy to accept. It all depends on your attitude towards it.
In the book, the word “cheese” is a metaphor for anything you want it to mean. It can be safety, family, business, sales, opportunities, leadership, travel, life, love, religion ect.
Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, once said, “Change is the only constant in life.” When things start changing around you it is time to change. If you do not change you will be left behind.
Today people are being left behind at a faster pace than ever 50 years ago.
Taking the first step is hard for many of us and I understand where you might be coming from.
We tend to think about how others perceive us. The sad truth is we fail to act because we feel the need to appease others and not ourselves.
Before you read any further, answer this question for yourself, “Are you afraid to fail or succeed?”
I believe if you have the ability answer this question truthfully you will star to see where you lack and what opportunities are available for you to succeed.
How to See Opportunities
If you want to see and take advantage of opportunities, you cannot just sit in the same place and keep work harder than you have been up until today.
You should re-evaluate what you are doing and what the future results of what you are doing will be. Do not keep putting your blood, sweat and tears into something that may no longer serve a purpose to your success, in 3-5 years.
Here are 13 statements to motivate you and help you see opportunities in places you have not once looked.
- Did you know, having more opportunities make you happy?
- The more important your “Cheese” is to you the more you want to hold on to it.
- If you do not change with the changes that are happening all around you, you can become extinct or replaced by someone better qualified to do your job.
- What would you do and how would you approach life if you were not afraid to fail or succeed?
- Take some time to smell the “Cheese” often. This will allow to know when it is getting old. It is important to take time to reflect and consider other possibilities.
When you move in a new direction, it helps you find new “Cheese”.
- Take time to understand your fears. Find ways to overcome. When you stop being afraid, you start to feel good.
- When you take the time to image yourself enjoying your new “Cheese”, this leads you towards your goals, dreams and desires.
- The quicker you let go of old “Cheese”, your previous believes, the sooner you will find new “Cheese” to motivate you.
- It is always safer to search for what you want in the maze of life, than remain where you are, in a “Cheeseless” situation.
- Remember your old beliefs will not lead you to new opportunities.
- When you begin to see that you can find new opportunities and enjoy the new “Cheese”, you begin to change the course you have been taking.
- Take the time to notice small changes early. This will help you adapt to the bigger changes that are to come in the future.
Always move with the “Cheese”. When you do, your attitude will be positive and you enjoy life just a little bit more.
From the book, Who Moved My Cheese, I learned successful people do not always try to convince others to be a success.
Rather they go out and lead by example. They show other it can be done. They are too busy finding ways to succeed for themselves and their families.
All change starts with you. Are you going to move with the times as change happens or will you stand still?
Will you wait for others to change before you do or will you be a pioneer and look for trends? You can be the person who continually look for places to grow.
How quickly will you adapt to all the changes around you? What one thing did you take from reading this article?
