Growing up in the 1990’s I had the opportunity to watch some really good mafia movies.
Statements like, “Forget About It” were said many time and by many people. In those three words, you can find power. The power to let go and not worry about things anymore.
If you want to overcome worry, stress, bad habits and gain a positive attitude, increase energy and peace in your life, then Dale Carnegie’s classic book, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, is the right book for you.
This 340-page book is full of ideas that will help you understand and connect to yourself. It also helps you understand others in whole new way.
The problem today is not all of us have time to sit and read a 340-page book. Nor do we have the time to look for the message the book is offering us.
My goal is to condense Dale Carnegie’s book, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, into an easy to follow article.

Who was Dale Carnegie?
Born in 1888, Dale Carnegie lived a life most of us can only dream to live. He was one of the greatest salesman and knew he could offer the world more.
He had the opportunity to work with the best of the best in business. In 1912, the Dale Carnegie course began.
This course offers people a way to achieve a level of success they could not achieve on their own. The course along with this book help people overcome fears.
Dale Carnegie died in 1955 but he left us with principles that are still thought and quoted today.
In fact, all around the world his books can be purchased and studies. This book offers you a way to change the way you live.
How to Stop Worrying and Start Living
The book teaches five core concepts: Analyzing and Overcoming Worry, Breaking the Worry Habit, Cultivating a Positive Mental Attitude, Conquering Worry and Criticism, and Keeping your Energy up.
Analyzing and Overcoming Worry
If you want to overcome your fear and worries, then you must know the cause.
To find out the cause and overcome your problems, you can answer these four questions to gain a better understanding.
- What are your problems and why?
- What are the causes of your problems?
- Can you list what the possible solutions are to your problems?
- How can you solve your problem? And what is the best solution?
Once you have an opportunity to gather all the facts and weight out all your fact, it is time to reach a decision on what you will do to overcome your worry.
Once you have decided it is time to act. Do not stall and decide tomorrow is a better time to start. There is no better time than right now to start.
The reason many of us do not get started right away is because you fight a battle called duality.
Once you have analyzed the problem it is time to overcome your worry. When you take action against worry, you must face the problem head on. Be prepared by knowing what the worst case is scenario is. Then act on it and improve upon it.
If you want to succeed and overcome the worry then you must take action to overcome your worry daily.
It is important for you to understand the positive and negative impact, worry has on your health. Know that the negative impact of worry can damage your health over a long period of time. In the short-term worry can be a good thing.
Now that you have devised a plan and course of action. Live your life day by day and take the right steps to overcome worry.
Breaking the Worry Habit
Now that you have decided that living your life is more important than worrying, it is time to let go of the past. Do not allow the past to cause future anxiety and refuse to give the past anymore power over you.
If you find yourself thinking about your problems, do your best to keep busy and do not focus your attention on non-important things that can occupy the mind.
Know a simple fact, for every bad thing that happens to you, there are hundreds of good things that happen to you which many of us do not take notice of.
If you focus you time, attention and efforts in creating a life that has fewer worries the inevitable will happen. You start creating the live you are working towards. A life that is built on the foundation of a successful mindset.
Cultivating a Positive Mental Attitude
How to stop worrying and start living, is about having a positive attitude and creating the peace and happiness you want in your life. When we try to be like others we get away from the essence of who we are.
Do not imitate others. Learn to be yourself. There is nothing wrong with emulating success but do it with your personality.
Perhaps you have heard, if you are having a bad day, try to make someone else’s day better. Watching others be happy will make you happy.
Do not be ungrateful for all you have. Millions of people around the world are dying to have all you have, including your troubles, worry and stress.
You need to focus on learning from your mistakes and not just going through life making the same ones repeatedly. This is the definition of insanity.
If someone has wronged you do not try to get even with them. This causes you to use a lot of mental energy that you can apply in other parts of your life.
Conquering Worry and Criticism

I believe we all strive to be our best. This is way we read books, listen to audio programing and even ask a mentor to guide us.
Many people do not do this, but you can pray anytime you need to. You can ask God, the universe or the higher power you believe in to help guide you to solving your problems and eliminating worry.
We often find ourselves in the mist of our peer and feel like they are criticizing us but remember the opposite of what they are saying is a compliment.
We need to get better at looking at our own mistakes and pointing out where we need to improve. Once we can do this, we can accept the words of others and be the best we can be without letting our ego creep in.
Keeping Your Energy Up
There are days where mental stress is real and all we want to do is go home after a long day of work and sleep. There are many ways to deal with stress before it becomes a habit we get used to.
At work, often many people do not take coffee breaks. I believe the 15-minute break you get is a good time to stretch your body and refocus on your goals.
Once you have a moment to gather yourself put enthusiasm back in to your work and find ways to generate more money, if you are in a sales position. If you are not find ways to be the best at your job.
If you have a job, are self-employed or are an entrepreneur, take time to clean the clutter on your desk. Focus on doing the work that is most important and get help where you need it.
It is important to take care of your health. You can go to the gym, for a walk over lunch, workout, eat healthier, turn off the news, talk to a friend and even put on some music. Before you start to feel stressed find ways to relax.
A positive mind will create a positive body which will create a positive life.

If you can’t sleep find ways to relax and prevent insomnia. If you still cannot sleep, do not just lay in bed, get out and work on things that need to be completed.
Many times, we lay awake because we have unfinished work that is keeping us up and our mind will not go to sleep until we complete the task.
The 33 highlighted principles are just the tip of the iceberg in this classic book. How to stop worrying and start living, should be studies and reread once every six months. If you want to excel apply the principles that are mentioned in this book.

We all want to feel important and don’t want to worry about daily life. Sometimes it is hard to stop worrying. Once you know how to take the needed actions you can start to live.
