Thought of the Day: June 21, 2018 – Spiritual Ownership

Taking spiritual ownership means you understand the power of the word and how you use it. Too many people use the word to manipulate others to their will

Spiritual ownership means you are aware, mindful and enlightened to the needs of others.

When you take ownership of your spiritual life, you do not let others influence your decisions if you understand the principles you stand for.

Take control of your life and make better decision for today and for the future. You will have less stress because you know the decision you’re making comes from a foundation of principles that was outlined by the word of God.

You make the right decisions based on your morals and understand and then leave the rest in the hands of God or the universe.

Each day we face many hard decisions. Each choice you make will have a chain reaction you may not understand. The best thing you can do consult your religious book. Once you have considered all the possibilities, make the best choice. Then know the rest is up to God.

I will not tell you to go to church or take your kids. You will have to decide that for yourself.

I know many people who do and don’t go to church. Their lives are no better or no worse than those who do.

Going to church can bring community, direction, clarity of mind and thoughts. As well it can ground you in positive moral believes. But staying at home with family and reading the word and discussing it together can do the same thing.

Taking spiritual ownership means is about know what your five senses experience. Today social media and television bombard you with negative.

Without even realizing it you can be watching a television show and they might be talking about topics, showing images or using language you do not want your family to experience.

What you do next is up to you. Do you continue to watch, change the channel or send your kids out of the room. If the images do not line up with your faith or beliefs you can choose whatever you want based on how you want to take spiritual ownership.

Think about joining a community of people who get together and talk and discuss the word. Learn how to apply the principles to your life. Discuss the meaning of the principles with your spouse or children. Each person has an opportunity to grow from this experience.

When you take spiritual ownership you learn what you believe in and what you stand for.  This becomes the foundation you build your life on.

My dad once said to me, “I can bend in my beliefs but I cannot break them”.

At that time I did not understand what he was talking about. But when listen to what he said with a spiritual ear, I finally understood. He was taking ownership of what he believed in.

Stand for something and be true to what you believe in.

Thought of the Day: June 20, 2018 – Financial Ownership

In order for you to be successful with money you have to take financial ownership of your money.

Taking ownership of your money means sitting down and reviewing your financial picture. Look at where you are today and decide where you want to be in the future. Take responsibility for the choices you have made thus far.

Many people do not make the right decisions with their money. Soon they find themselves in financial trouble. They let bad financial decisions compound and soon they can’t dig themselves out of it.

When you decided to take ownership of your finances, ask yourself, “What are my financial goals?” “What will my financial outlook be if I don’t change?” These questions allow you to see where you are right and help you see if you’re on the path to financial freedom.

You have heard the phrase, keeping up with the Jones. If you want to keep up, then you have to earn like them and control your pocket-book. THEY DID!

Before you can keep up with them, you may need to fix your situation. You cannot worry about where others are spending their money. You have to know where your money is going.

The Jones are out earning you. They are not living on credit and they only buy the things they can afford to pay for. Remember the Jones might be friends, family and co-workers. But they all have different goals, wants, needs and a financial plan.

The people you are trying to keep up with have financial goals in place that allow them to buy what they want. If they don’t, they might be like you, buying stuff to keep up with the Jones.

Most of us are just buying stuff because we want it now. We do not put much thought of how this purchase will affect our finances later. Your goal is to not end up like them, so change your habits and change your life.

If you are a married, this means both partners could be earning money. This also means that both partners have the ability to spend money without the other knowing. If you are married, sit with your spouse and look at past bills and see where the money is being spent.

By knowing and understanding where the money is spent, you can devise a plan to control non-essential expenses. You might need to set a budget, cut up credit cards and go on a cash only option. You have to do whatever you can to take control of your money.

Until you do, your expenses will keep getting the best of you.

Taking financial ownership means looking at where you work and how much you make. Working is not just about collecting a paycheque and do your best to stretch your money.

When you and I don’t earn enough we tend to use credit cards. Soon we are in trouble because you can’t pay off the full balance.

Look at your current job. Consider your potential income over the next 5 years. Look at what your income could be if I worked a little harder and smarter. Let’s say you go from $69k to $75k a year. This is only $6000 more in the next 5 year.

This might sound like a lot. But with an increase in income, you typically pay more tax. Also. inflation would continue to decrease your spending dollar. Decide if you continue to do what you’re doing, if you will get ahead or not.

To keep up with the Jones you might consider siting and taking with the Jones. Find out what they are doing to achieve financial success.

You can read any of the thousands of books written on finances to help you understand, control and change your spending habits. If you can’t afford to spend $20 for a book, go to your local library and pick it up for free.

Lastly, consider sitting with a credit counselling professional. They do cost money, but the money spent will be of great value if you take financial ownership of your future.

Realize you can’t pass the blame to anyone but yourself. If you do not take ownership of your financial future, understand no one else is going to.

Thought of the Day: June 19, 2018 – Business Owner Takes Ownership

How important is it, when the business owner takes ownership for the results of the business and its employees?

It is the most important factor to the success of the business in my opinion.

When owner take pride in what their business stands for they allow themselves to accomplish more of the goals they have set out to do.

At smaller companies, business owner are usually the first at work and the last one to leave. As the business grows they give responsibility to members of the team. This is one way a business owner takes ownership. Delegating tasks and focusing on more important day-to-day production.

The business owner should learn the names of each employee, no matter the size of the company. When you know your people, your people respect you and want to work for you.

When owners know the goals of employees, they can help in the achievement them.  The more your employees grow, the more your company will grow. This allows you to find employees who are motivated. Then you can promote them and allow them to take ownership in key positions.

Take ownership of the results of your company by standing behind the brand. Make sure all the employees are also behind the brand, mission and vision statement. Owners should share their vision of the company and help employees understand how they fit into that vision.

Another way the business owner takes ownership is by not blaming employees when goals are not met. Leadership is knowing that the blame lies on the owner and the management team.

This is why it is important to have great relationships with your employees. Taking ownership means you let employees go who are not holding up there end of the employment deal.

As the manager you need to hire the right people to do the job.

Although employee should take pride in what they do, it is not always the case. Even though they receive a paycheque, sometimes they feel they are owed this cheque just for showing up to work.

If you are an employee, never forget that there are students in who are willing to take your job for less pay and get experience in the job market. If you work for someone, have the attitude that this job will help you gain the skills which can move you towards the goals you have set.

Taking ownership as an employee begins with getting to work on time, taking pride in your work, and work space.

What do you do when you first get to work?

Is your desk a mess or do you have a clean desk policy?

I believe the habits you develop now carry forward throughout the day and even after work.

I make a list of what needs to be complete that day. Then priorities what needs to be completed.

Your boss hired you because you are the best candidate for the job. Prove your worth to them and yourself. For all the work you do give 100% of your ability, understanding and skill level.

If you are not working to your full capability, it will show. As soon as your boss takes ownership of your work, you might find that you don’t have job to go to.

When the business owner takes ownership, it means they are willing to help others, complete the task and succeed.

When you take ownership you become a leader. If and when you decided to move positions in the future, your new employer will recognize the skill you have. It is possible they will pay you more because your net worth to the company is greater.

Thought of the Day: June 18, 2018 – Families Taking Ownership

Families taking ownership is how communication starts. This is the first step in understanding how you will have a great relationship with your spouse and raise your kids.

If you have a healthy relationship with your spouse chances are you will also have a healthy relationship with your kids.

Have you ever considered how you treat your spouse or how does your spouse treat you?

How do you react to each other when you’re around the your kids? What is your reaction when your kids so something wrong?

When you have a positive attitude and no ego, you are aware of how you want to treat them. It lines up with your believes of who you are.

Does your family have an understand of each member? How about some goals?

If so, your families taking ownership for its future. In my opinion it is responsibility of the parents to help their kids get on the path they have chosen. Parents need to encourage when their children fail or have set backs.

Adults have a responsibility towards each other. Both spouses are responsible for themselves and to each other. If you know your spouse is not headed in the direction then you must talk to each other. Find out what is holding the other person back.

When families take ownership it is easy to criticize someone’s faults. Instead inspire them to go out and learn how to move forward. Do not judge them. Rather help them get back. Ask questions, listen, understand and/or help your family member through their problems.

Taking ownership means:

  1. Focusing on what is important.
  2. Cutting out non-essential television time.
  3. Get the required education for each family member and their individual goals.
  4. Focus on the health of the family
  5. Eat one meal together. Build family bonding time.
  6. Setting goal and helping each other succeed.
  7. Regardless of who’s fault, everyone steps up to get the job done.
  8. Be a positive example for your family to follow.

I would love to hear about and see more families taking ownership for the results of the household. But I am aware, you cannot make them change or take ownership.

All you can do is led by example. Hopefully they will see you your work ethic and want to emulate it. It is your responsibly to control of the environment. Choose wisely.

Thought of the Day: June 15, 2018 – Take Ownership

How important is it to take ownership of where you are and where we want to go in life?

I believe it is vital as you work towards accomplishing your goals and developing a positive attitude.

In order to take ownership of what you want out from life you first have to know what you want from life.

What makes you come alive? What keeps you awake at night and working well into the morning? Do you have big dreams and have you set goals to accomplish these dreams?

Once you have set your goals you need to know what obstacles are.

Is it time? The location? A person? A situation? Or it the obstacles the person in the mirror? What is not in your way today which could be tomorrow?

We need to understand and overcome our obstacles. Obstacles usually stop us or slow us down. But if we understand how to remove them then we can succeed.

Taking ownership of what you want, means making peace with your past. In most cases that’s the one things that is holding us back. Once you acknowledge these hindrances you can deal with them.

You may need to apologies to the people you hurt in the past or people you are hurting now. Ask them for forgiveness. To take ownership, it means you share your past with others so they do make the same mistakes.

This new-found understanding leads you towards your new future and will not stop you.

Sometimes it is not our past that holds us back, but it is the present moment. Maybe you are trapped by an addiction?

Today we have access to more things and it can be harder to realize we are addicted to things. Many people are addicted to their cell phone, the internet, work, drugs, sex, porn, television, people, food especially sugar, success and failure.

If you have an addiction to any of these things you need to recognize that addiction and take ownership of it. Tell someone of you trust about your addiction. It is time to get help and the only way is to first admit it. If it is serious, seek professional help.

If you want to succeed you have to give up the one thing that you are having the toughest time giving up!

Once you realize that you can take control of your addiction you realize no one else will give you what you want in life, but you.

Once you realize this, you take ownership of the results you want. Far too many people do not want to admit they have any addictions. They never let the addiction go. They become more addicted over time.

Taking ownership for your life is your responsibility. If you do not take action to take control of your life, then other people and/or your addiction, will control you. You will go through life unhappy until your world crashes.

I hope you do not wait that long before you start making positive changes in your life. Decide to take ownership of your life and get around a good group of people. People who will hold you accountable to your actions.

No one is going to care about your wellbeing more than yourself. Get up and take action! Find the very thing that is stopping you and devise a plan to conquer it. Only after you have beat your addition can you go out and help others do the same.

Confucius said, “Attack the evil that is within yourself, rather than attacking the evil that is in others.”

Thought of the Day: June 14, 2018 –  Spiritual Change

Spiritual change happens when people are ready for it.

Making a spiritual change can impact your decisions about your future, your family and others in our society. This can result in positive difference that you were not expecting to see.

A spiritual change is needed for many so they may realize the goals they have.

In order for this to happen you must ask yourself, “How do I see God?”

When answering this question take a look deep within yourself. Once you know how you see God you may want to ask yourself a second question.

“How does God see me?”

This question will cause you to look at your character and how you conduct your life. Answer this question from the perspective that God is standing in front of you and tell you all the good and not so good about you.

Based on the information you get, what changes would you need to make to get back to the path you know you should be on?

Be truthful with yourself, remember God knows everything about you. So open up those “boxes” that hold your deepest darkest secrets and deal with them.

To experience spiritual change you need to understand one faith is not geographical. You can be living anywhere in the world and practice any faith, religion or spiritual practice you want.

Ask yourself,

  1. “How do I view people from a faith or culture that is not the same as mine?”
  2. “Do I have a negative view on how I see people from other cultures?”
  3. “Am I understanding of their view even if they are not the same as mine?”

You have to be accepting of those from other faiths to experience a spiritual awakening. Take an interest in cultures different from yours.

Do you know why you have such a strong relationship to your own personal faith, culture or religious background? Do you believe what you believe because you were told to do so from a young age or did you study the doctrine yourself and form your own opinions?

Spiritual understanding occurs when you have the ability to look at things from a different perspective. This opens your eyes and give you the ability to change how you view yourself and others around you.

Where did your understanding and concept of God originate?

Did you read about God and then form your thoughts on who God must be? Or are you following the definition that is given to us in all religious and spiritual books?

Do not put God in a box and expect him to be the way you see him. Contemplate, why would God be the way I think he is and not the way others see him?

To experience spiritual change your ego needs to change before you see that truth that God in much bigger, can do more and is more in charge of what is happening than we understand.

Praying can connect you to the divine understanding. There is no right or wrong way to pray other than do it with the right heart.

I was born into a Hindu family. As I grew up I always had a lot of question. Questions my parents could not always answer about my faith. As I grew older and was able to experience more of the world around me.

I started reading books from other religions. I learned about Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. The more I read books from these cultures the more I enjoyed what I was reading.

I have always kept an open mind as I search for answers on my spiritual journey.

Although I have not adopted all the practices from every religion I consider myself to be of all religious backgrounds and faiths. How else can I begin to understand all 7.5 billion people on Earth?

May spiritual journey tells me that we are all one, so I can change my religion as I see fit. Maybe you need to do this in your own life? For me it was the right thing to do. I opened my eyes and decided not to separate myself from others.

Thought of the Day: June 13, 2018 –  Financial Decisions

Are you willing to change your current financial decisions so you can be debit and stress free?

Over the last 12 years our economy has changed a few times. Once it was a prosperous market for many people. Now it has become a prosperous market for those who are willing to take the time, energy and resources to take advantage of the changes.

In 2008, people experienced hardship, lost their jobs, changes career paths and lost thousands of dollars they had invested in the stock market. People lost their homes and became renters as they could not afford their home.

During this time, people where still having kids and they were racking up debt faster than ever. Many people relied on government assistance as they were forced to declare bankruptcy.

I believe this because many made financial decisions that did not affect them during the recession.

What about you?

How did your life change? Was it for better or worse? Did you take advantage of the changing market conditions?

Why did some people gained while others lost everything?

I believe it has to do with the financial decisions people made. Some people were prepared while other still don’t understand what happen and how to avoid it.

Those who were prepared took steps to increase their chances of doing well in case of emergencies. These people decided to learn about money and continue to do so.

They understood if, they did not keep up with the changing economy they would continue to lose anytime there was an economic downturn.

Some of the things they may have done included:

  1. Have money in their saving account for unforeseen events.
  2. Reviewed and changed their financial goals.
  3. They understand the variables that grow and shrink money.
  4. Hired a good financial planner/broker, who has your best interests.
  5. They knew what their money was doing at all times.
  6. They make it a priority to learn about money and risk assessment.
  7. Talked about money with people who have more knowledge than them.
  8. They reviewed spending habits.
  9. They understand how inflation effects their monies long-term value.
  10. Their money is diversified in multiply investments, with no direct correlation to each other.

In the changing economy it is best to be update with what is happening. The more you think you understand money, and the economy, the more things will continue to change.

Making sounds financial decisions is about, understanding and changing were your money hangs out!

Thought of the Day: June 12, 2018 – Modifying Business Behaviour

Can modifying business behaviour really give you the results you’re looking for as a business owner or employee of a company?

How will you change and stay at the top of our profession?

If you do not understand business, technology and what your customer wants, you will get left behind. You can go from being the leader in your industry to closing your business and becoming obsolete, overnight!

As a business owner it is important to know what your competition is doing. Are they on a hiring or firing spree? How are they expanding their market? Are they launching new products and services? How are they dealing with change in the market?

Rather, you should also consider, how you are dealing with change in the market. Are you the innovator or are you just following market trends? What are you doing to see continued growth in the market?

As the work environment changes are you also changing? What does your online presence look like? How much business is create online vs traditional methods? What is the fastest growing product you have? Who is your buyer? What shifts are taking place in the market?

Answering these questions is important if you are looking to gain a competitive edge over your competition.

Did you know the government, not just the one in your country, makes it hard for you to get your goods and services to market. With new laws, rules and regulations, taxes and duties it costs a lot to stay in business.

If your business is losing money you may consider corporate restructuring. But it is also a good idea to modify business behaviour when you are looking to gain market share, cut costs or rebrand.

With billions of dollars begin spend online, it is a good idea to re-evaluate who you have in each department of your business. What value do they bring to the team.

Today, many jobs are out sourced to countries that have cheaper labour and an educated work force. For employees of a company competing for jobs is becoming your biggest challenge.

As the employees of a company you might be the best at what you do. Keep in mind there is always someone smarter, more eager and capable of completing your tasks. This person is willing to work for a little less money, sometimes to get a foot in the door.

Modifying business behaviour for the employee means you keep up with changes in the market. You read books, attend seminars and take courses to know everything you can to be the best at what you do. You build value in you.

A smart employee learns the competition and networks when possible. A smart employee understands the competition is not just companies you sell against in the market but its  people who work similar positions.

What are you doing to stand apart from your co-workers?

In this ever-changing world where products and services can be obtained at a click of a button, we need to find ways to stay ahead of the competition.

The norms of 10 years ago are not the norms of today. The norms of today will not be the norms of the future.

How are you modifying business behaviour? The actions you take based on how you answer this question will determine your success.

Thought of the Day: June 11, 2018 – Improving Family Life

How are you improving family life at home? Are you changing the way you think, act and react towards the members of your family?

Improving your families quality of life means you set each member of the family on the path they would like to travel.

There are many things you start today to change your family life as you move in to the future. By starting today you see results today.

An important factor to creating positive change in your family is to turn off the television. It is time to communicate with conversation not quantity of time spent together. The pattern needs to change if you want to change where we are and who we are.

Spend quality time together. Consider having a family meeting to discuss what each member of the family want to do.

Watching television should not be on the list.

Decide to cook together and eat together at the dining table. Try going on family walks. Play board games, read books together, got in to the community and give your time to a cause everyone agrees on.

There are endless ways for improving family life.

Parents need to create lasting change and take an active role in the lives of their children. Don’t allow your children to have the “wrong role models.” You be the positive role model in their lives.

Look at all the things going on in the news, music, movies and social media today. Look at who our kids consider role models. If I am right, I believe you would rather be your childs role model over some actor, musician or TV personality.

I understand it is not easy to be at every event your spouse and children want you to attend. But it is important, when possible, to change your schedule and attend.

I am not saying you should lose that million dollar contract you have worked on for the last 6 months.

As long as there is open communication within the family, then there is understand of why you may not every event. If you do miss a children’s recital, ask your spouse to record it and then you can watch it alongside your children when you get home. This will reinforce care and support.

To create understanding you need to change how they speak to each other. Sometimes it is easy to be nice to everyone else, then come home and speak rudely to your loved ones.

Look at how you treat each member and why you might be speaking to them in that manner. If you are speaking rudely, become aware and then change how you react.

When you change how you speak, you create an understanding, love and a stronger b bond between members of the family.

Improving family life means asking your spouse a question then listening without interrupting. When you listen you show the other person that they are important. Sometimes your spouse can be frustrated and just needs someone to listen to them without judgement. If you judge, you do not allow change to happen.

I recommend if you are going to fight as a married couple to do so but in a constructive ways. Decide to work together not against each other. Ask questions to understand what is going on and what the root cause of the argument is.

Ask what you can do to help and how you can create change. Make an effort to change the habits that are not progressing your family in the direction you want to go. Overtime  small changes will make a big difference.

Thought of the Day: June 8, 2018 – Creating Change

Are you willing to change something about your life to get what you want?

If you are, then the direction you head in will also change.

I believe the late Michael Jackson said it best, “ I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer.  If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, and then make a change”

What better time than today to start? Why wait till tomorrow. Like your mom told you,  “Tomorrow never comes.”

How true is that! We are creatures of procrastination. Wanting to put important things off until another day.

In order to start the change process it is important not to over analyze your life but to view it as it is. You might ask yourself a few questions such as; What do I like about myself? What don’t I like about myself? Am I willing to change? What holds me back from becoming what I want to be?

To become a new you, you will face new challenges.

What you do daily will help you stay on track or get you so far of track that you get lost in your external desires.

Make a list of things you would like to change about yourself. Then make a list of things you have to do each day so the change you want can happen.

Maybe you wake up an hour early, exercise, eat healthy foods, reading, listening to podcasts, find a way to help people, make 100 sales calls a day, you reach out to previous clients and/or you take a course. No matter what it is, you will have to find time to do all these new activates. And in orders to do them, you must give up non-productive activities.

You can start by changing the way you think. Figure out why you hold such beliefs. Many times beliefs stem from how you grew up, the influences of friends and family, the media and/or social media.

Once you determine the root cause of your thoughts and beliefs, you can begin to change your internal being. You can do this by setting some goals.

Change will not happen overnight and you may give up on wanting to. Changing who you are takes time and effort.

You may work on yourself a lifetime to become the person you envision today. You can accomplish this faster when you stop focusing on what you cannot control and stop comparing your success to the success of other.

If you do not modify your behaviours, overtime you will be left behind. Not only in your thinking but in life.

More than ever you need to keep an open mind and adjust with the future. Do not fight change as it will run over you if you put of a struggle.

You have nothing to lose if you transform your life for the better.
