I will answer that for you as well we will look at how the conscious mind plays a role in building your subconscious mind.
How the conscious mind determines your lives outcomes, gives you confidence and how you can accomplish anything you want once you understand the power of your mind.
The Book – The Ant ad the Elephant by: Vince Poscente
The Ant and the Elephant was written in 2004 by Vince Poscente. The book is a great read and can helps you understand the relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind.
Representing your conscious mind is the Ant and representing your subconscious mind is the Elephant.
In the story, there is a wise Owl, which I believe represents all the knowledge you and I have gained from book, audio programming, mentorship and self-talk.
The Owl is a mentor or life coach to the Ant.
The reason Vince has represented the conscious mind as the ant is because a small percentage of our daily chit chatter and self-talk controls much of our subconscious mind.
The Elephant is a large animal just like the human body. It takes direction from the conscious mind.
What you do, how you act, react, think, the things you try and what you fear, determines how you will ultimately succeed or fail in life.
The story represents the positive and negative thoughts everyone has during their day. Facing challenges and not giving up but taking control to have a better life then you have today.
The Ant and the Elephant is about the thoughts we have as we work towards our dream, goals and aspirations.
Friends, family or co-workers will try to take our focus off our goals. They are represented in the story.
The book talks about the power or your thoughts and how they guide you on your journey.
The story of your conscious and subconscious mind shows how your words can lead you to procrastinate or help you find discipline so you can accomplish what you wish to.
What Is the Conscious Mind?
The conscious mind is part of you. It is a part of your mind that you are aware of and you can control it with your words.
The conscious mind is your thoughts and it is what you are doing now. It is what allow you to feel in control of yourself.
You think, “Scroll down and continue reading” and your brain does the work to get your hands to scroll down.
Your conscious mind is used to “program yourself” with every action you take, every word you say, everything thing you read or listen to.
You want to get up at 6 in the morning?
Tell yourself you want to get up at 6 in the morning. Set your alarm.
In the morning, your alarm goes off.
Either you will get out of bed because you are disciplined and have created the behavior to get out of bed or your subconscious mind will take over.
What Is the Subconscious Mind?
Your subconscious mind is what you program with your conscious mind. So, your conscious mind writes the program your brain, body, soul and spirit obey.
Your subconscious mind will do what you want to do. Here is the catch, you must train your subconscious mind to do what you want it to do until the action becomes a habit.
So, when you alarm goes off at 6 in the morning, do you hit the snooze and go back to bed or do you turn of the alarm and get out of bed?
Your subconscious mind is used to hitting the snooze so it wants you to hit the snooze and get some more sleep.
Your conscious mind, who set the alarm last night, wants you to get out of bed and turn off the alarm.
Who will win the morning battle?
The funny thing is you are in control, so you get to decide if you stay in bed or get up.
The more times you turn of the alarm and get out of bed, the more you program your subconscious mind to make it a habit. The more times you hit the snooze, you also program yourself to create a habit.
If you read the statement Mahatma Gandhi said, you understand the power of using words and thoughts to create the life you want.
The statement goes something like this:
Your beliefs become your thoughts.
Then positive or negative thoughts become your words.
The words you speak are the words you take actions on.
Over time the actions you take becomes your daily habits.
Your daily habits become the values you live by.
Those values you live by determine the destiny you will have.
Great news is you can who you are by reprograming your subconscious mind with your conscious mind any time you are ready to do so.
You Need a Reason to Change
The book, The Ant and The Elephant, shows the connection between the conscious and subconscious part of the brain. It gives you the basics of how to program your mind, so you can succeed how you want to.
Let’s admit it, most of us are happy with where we are in life only because we do not want to change. We accept our displeasure as happiness.
There is a percentage of people who want to live a better life than they currently are living.
I believe we all want peace of mind and the ability to put our head on the pillow each evening and know what we did today mattered.
If you are happy with the life you are living, this article may give you some additional insight on how to improve your life.
If you are not happy with where you are, then my goal is to give you the tools to change the way you think so you can change the way you live.
Do you want to change?
What you do differently from this moment forward will determine your success or failure.
I believe it important that you and I begin to understand the impact each decision we make and how it will positivity or negatively impact our next decision.
Anyone looking to change, relate, create or succeed in any facet of life needs to understand ego. We all need to do our best, to not have our ego impact our conscious or subconscious thoughts and actions.
I believe you and I need to listen to our inner voice. You know the one that is telling us what we need to do to succeed in life.
Do not listen the part of your inner voice that wants to hurt, destroy and bring you down.
What Will You Do?
Do you want to change the way you think?
You may have to change the programmer, first. This means everything you have done up until today has given you the results you have. It is time for you to learn what it takes to have a successful mind.
If you want different results then you should take different actions from what you have done so far.
How do you take action?
For starters, you need to be conscious of how you talk to yourself. Are you using positive or negative words? Are you uplifting or bring yourself down with your words?
Do you tell yourself you can succeed or you will fail?
What you tell yourself, that is where your thoughts will take you because your subconscious mind will find a way to make those words a reality.
If you say, I want to be a millionaire. Then your mind will start to take action towards that path.
If you say, I can’t afford to buy that, Then your mind will find excuses on why you can’t afford that.
Simply saying, I want to be a millionaire will not make you a millionaire. You need to back it up by action.
What kind of action?
That’s a great question to ask.
For you to do and be anything you want, you need to have a vision of where you want to be or what you want to do before you can act.
Sit down and decide what you want to do and what you will need to change for you to be a success. This is an important first step towards prosperity. Here are the 7 laws of prosperity.
What makes you feel alive?
What one thing can you not live without?
Imagine all the possibilities of your life, if you could not fail in the attempt to achieving your dreams.
Brainstorm and write down your idea. If you must, sit with a friend, family or a mentor to help you figure this out. This is your life. Plan it out and follow your course of action.
Did you know more people take time to plan a one week vacation verse the amount of people who never plan their own life?
Now that you have constructed your vision. It is time to get your thinking right. When you think right, you speak right. When you speak positively, your conscious words program your subconscious mind.
The goal is to take the right actions to see your vision through to the end. You can inspire yourself to have a mind-blowing life, find out how.
To speak positive, you must notice when and where you speak negative. The negative you speak is also programming your thoughts and creating the life you have currently.
Remember when you were younger and your parents encouraged you to choose your friends wisely? Well the same goes here, it is important to choose your words wisely.
Everything that is not taking you towards your vision, you need to take some time and review the importance of it in your life.
Why is it important to you? What else could be important to you if you changed your habit?
When was the last time you did something just one time and became an expert?
My guess is that it has not ever happen. You do not become an expert doing something once and you do not program your subconscious by thinking a thought once.
Science tells us that many of us think the same thoughts over 1000’s of time a day.
Have you sat down and reviewed the thoughts you are thinking?
Those thoughts are what makes you who you are today and will make you who you are tomorrow unless you change your thoughts.
Want to change?
Then change your thoughts.
You want to lose weight?
Then you should tell yourself that eating that fatty donut will not get you to your goal. Each time you think about the donut, you must tell yourself that statement. You need your brain to think differently about the food you consume.
You are using the power or your self-talk to reprogram yourself. The key is to repeat the steps, words and actions over and over until they are a subconscious habit.
Do you have a strong belief in yourself?
I sure hope you do. You will face challenges and how you react and overcome those challenges will determine your future success.
It can be easy to give up at the first sign of a challenge. The trick is what do you say, think or believe about yourself? This will determine your fate.
When you get frustrated, you get negative. If you are negative then you fall into old patterns. The longer you stay there, the longer it takes you to reach your vision or goals.
Realize quickly that fear is not real. I heard once that fear is, False Evidence Appearing Real.
When you are feeling down, and it will happen, will you pick up a book, listen to a positive audio program or talk to a mentor and get back on track?
To build confidence, you need to learn how to stop worrying and start living.
If you can prepare for any unforeseen circumstances then you have a better chance to succeed. You should anticipate what may or may not happen on your journey to our goal. It is part of the planning process.
Plan how you will deal with those things that may or may not come up. The better you plan the better you can handle those challenges.
Let’s say you want to finish an important document to take to the office on Monday morning. Its Saturday night and your friends call you to go out.
What do you say and what will you do?
Whatever answer you choose is up to you and your goals. I know you will take the time needed to complete the document for Monday.
But will you take your time to do the best job or will you spend all of Sunday rushing through the work to complete it to your lesser ability?
It is nice to go out but you should pick and choose the time that work best for you. You cannot let others dictate your schedule. You oversee your destiny not others.
The Ant and The Elephant, coupled with self-talk audio programing, books and a positive attitude will put you on the path to mastering your subconscious mind.
Use the power of your conscious mind and guide yourself to the life you want through positive words and actions.
Within days you will see how your positive words can make you feel empowered. You will start to feel in control and confident. You are your conscious mind and you can tell yourself what you need to get done.
