Who Was Bill Britt?
There seem to be are many articles out there on Bill Britt. Some good and others not so much.
He believed in the free enterprise system and the will of every human being.
He was a leader, a family man and businessman to millions of people.
I had the opportunity to meet Bill Britt at a Quixtar (Amaway Global) event, in the Bay area, when I was still a part of that network marketing group.
The meeting did not last more than 10 seconds but it was my good fortune to shake hands with a Billionaire.
From that quick meeting, all I recall after all these years, is that he had a strong handshake, his hands were hard as stone and he had this glow in his eyes that resonated peace and happiness.
I do not recall the words he said to me or anyone else in the crowd, that was beginning to gather around him.
I remember he was quickly whisked away behind stage at the network marketing event.
What You Will Discover
I recently decided to go through some old boxes and do some spring cleaning. I come across 6 Bill and Peggy Britt tapes. No not cd’s, but actual tapes. Lucky for me, I packed away my old tape player, which I had used when listening to him and various speakers.
The tapes I came across were the ones I used to write this piece on Bill Britt.
- Father Power
- Fulfilling Your Destiny
- There Has to Be a Cause
- I Will Not Be Denied
- It Takes Guts to Succeed
I used the talks Bill gave on these tapes to put together what I feel is a comprehensive article about the life of Bill Britt and his believes.
The Life of Bill from Stage
There have been many things said about Bill Britt over the past 50 years. Many based only on opinion.
No matter if you have or have not heard of him, you can learn a lot from the life he lived. He was a pioneer, innovator, motivator and to many and a friend of all.
I have broken down this article in to five sections. Life, Business, Religion, Politics and Success.
To understanding Bill, I believe you have to understand his views on these core topics. These topics made Bill Britt the man he was and this is what influence others to become strong men and women themselves.
Life Before Amway
Bill Britt was born, August 28, 1931 and was the oldest of 8 children. Bill often said from stage his father was an alcoholic. This is probably one of the factors that caused him to not drink.
Growing up Bill believed he was given certain privileges and he wanted to give back. He believed it was his responsibly to join the USA army. Bill was stationed in Korea and often spoke about how American could have won the war.
While men and women were over fighting in Korea, Bill believed deals were made by the government so the men and women would not come home winners of the war.
After getting back from the conflict, Bill Britt knew he wanted to be a dentist or engineer. He knew he could be a successful business man by starting his own consulting firm.
While planning for this future, Bill took a different route. He become an assistant city manager and then grew to a city manager, of North Carolina.
Life After Amway
After spending 15 years at the same job and not having any kids, Peggy and Bill saw the Amway opportunity and started their business.
Although, Bill and Peggy worked hard to become successful, Bill approached the business with a somehow, some day and in some way, I will be a success attitude.
Over the years, Bill and Peggy worked as a team and build their family business in to one of the largest network marking business in the world.
Bill Britt claimed to be a Billionaire. Although I could find any information on this, I must believe after being in business for almost 40 year, the multi-level marketer was very rich man nonetheless.
I don’t believe Bill Britt was a fan of the schooling system. I believed that success to Bill Britt was predictable and so was failure.
He knew if we had a cause and the right tools, system and opportunity available, anyone could be a success.
At the age of 81 when Bill passed away, January 23, 2013, he had overcome many things. He never claimed to be perfect and he believed he was a continuing work in progress.
On Stage and In Business
In 1970, Bill and Peggy Britt started their Amway business with $25 investment and a dream. They were in huge financial problems but they always believed there would be a solution.
One of the first things they did was call everyone on their, Friends and Family list. Author and speaker Bob Proctor calls this our Contact Capital.
After joining and working the business, 40 years later, Bill and Peggy make up the largest part of Dexter Yager’s business. Bill said he joined Amway for five reason, all of them being, “Money”.
Within two years of working the business, Bill said he never worked at his city manager job, again. July 4, 1972 was the last day he would ever work for another man. Now we could focus on building, growing and maintaining relationship in his business.
Over his 40 year career Bill Britt personalized his leadership style from other great author and speaker such as Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Norman Vincent Peale, Stephen Covey, Brian Tracy, Bob Proctor and Dale Carnegie.
From stage Bill would often make motivational talk on what it took to become number one is leadership. He wanted to make sure people did not mess up their business so he made bold commitments to his team.
Bill believed liquor, drugs and the standers of corporate America had no place in an ethical and moral based business.
For Bill speaking from stage seemed so easy. He did not use notes instead he spoke form the heart. His talks had an, if I can do it, you can do it, feel to them. He had the confidence of a great salesman and he conveyed his message with conviction.
Bill preached the power of the spoken word and often was very uplifting, encouraging and an inspiration to his organization.
The last speaker of the night would usually be Bill and Peggy Britt. He would deliver a powerful leadership, business, success, religious and political talk, all rolled in to one.
When Peggy would speak, she spoke with a soft voice. She would usually talk about Bill and how they got started in business. In a few words, she would show what the power of a husband and wife team could become.
In business, Bill had the guts to succeed. He believed in the free enterprise system and felt anyone could be a success in the capitalistic system.
Being a brilliant business man, Bill knew we were the architects of our own future. He not only maximized the Amway business model but he revolutionized the teaching and training space as well.
Bill started his own teaching and training system. He knew businesses don’t succeed without systems in place so he founded Britt World Wide. People would now have a system to join and they could follow the same steps he took did to become financial free.
Part of the system, Bill and his team created, was 9 core steps. This included having a mentor to build your business with.
They developed a communication system where everyone on the team would be on the same page regardless if you had one person in business with you or a million.
The goal of the core steps was to develop effective leaders and have a positive impact on everyone on the team.
Bill and his team build business around each one of the core steps. This is one of the ways leaders earn money at different levels in the business.
From stage, using business principles and his teaching and training system, Bill regularly talked to 10-20,000 people. Over a one year period Bill and Peggy would complete 9 stage talks. They would be paid from each ticket sales.
No matter what you know about Bill Britt, one thing is for certain, the secret to his success was to leverage the power of other people.
On the advice of another business person, Bill started AMI. This is where the tapes and cd’s was developed. The sales material was edited, mastered, recorded and distributed through AMI.
Bill make a lot of money from the sales of the tapes. They were part of the training and teaching system and were distributed to millions of people weekly.
One of the biggest claims Bill made from stage was that he owned a bank with 9 other business investors.
What I learned from Bill is to not complicate the business. Follow the rules which are laid out. Bill used to say, once you have your freedom, I can start to teach you how to become wealthy.
Looks to me as if Bill and Peggy use their business sense and become the American Dream.
This is the most controversial part of the Britt World Wide teaching and training system. Although many people believe Amway is preaching religion, its core focus is the distribution of products.
Bill Britt understood the power in the Bible and believed in the word of God. He used the word of God to teach people to believe in themselves. He believed that the principle in the Bible should be used to build a successful foundation.
Bill believed the foundation of success were in books. Anyone could be as wealth as him and have anything they wanted if they just read and applied the information.
Many people who leave the Amway business, don’t always agree with the religious side of the teaching and train system.
Agree with Him or Not
Bill believed pornography has become a huge problem for men and we need to put a stop to that industry. He believed it hurts families and causes many relationship problems.
Bill believed that same-sex relationships should not be allowed as it is against what the Bible teaches.
As for evolution, Bill did not think we came from monkeys. He believed God made us different from everything on this earth. Make me wonder if he was a believer in the concepts talked about in the book, Chariots of the Gods?
When it comes to religion, Bill felt in his heart, Americans were adopted Jewish people. He would say this from stage all the time.
Many Amway business owners recall Bill Britt would discuss religion and politics when he had the opportunity to do so. Two subjects that hold a lot of controversy, even today.
You could hear Bill say the USA was a republic and not a democracy. We need to know the difference because the forefathers wrote it into the constitution.
During the 40 years and countless talks the one question that came up was, what do you stand for? Bill believed something was wrong with the American economic system.
He would preach the importance of spending time with family. He believed corporate America was a major problem. To many people were developing attractions for co-workers. Hence the saying, work husband or work wife.
This attraction to other is one of the reason North America has a high divorce rate.
I believe Donald Trump and Bill Britt have similar believes on how American could be run. Many ideas can possibly be seen in different executive orders Donald Trump has passed.
I am not saying I agree or disagree with either Bill or the 45th President of the United States. I am saying they seem to have similar believes but a very different approach.
It’s More than the Money, is a talk Bill did from stage. If you listen to what is being said from stage Bill Britt also seem to hold the same values as many of the presidents of the United States who were assassinated.
In one of the tapes, Bill makes reference to the deals that were made by the bankers at a meeting on Jakyll Island. This is where the banking system and the federal reserve system met in secret. Here is another article about the meeting on Jakyll Island.
Bill believed that there is a plan where the government is conspiring to enslave its people. He would mention how having money could solve all the problems a family is having.
Bill wanted to teach people about money and how corrupt the banking system is. He mentioned countless times that the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) needs to be abolished.
Government should not be able to correct taxes from its citizens except if it was a sales tax.
In 1981, Bill was saying the federal reserve system should be abolished and America should get their money back. He also believed the USA should have its own monetary system.
He believed money should be backed by Silver and Gold. This is how paper money was backed up until President Richard Nixon took the US Dollar off the gold standard.
Bill had a strong believe that banking system was destroying the family and if you can destroy the family you could destroy people’s lives.
Bill believed poverty is big business in America and the government was creating poverty on purpose.
The one thing Bill Britt was a master of was helping countless people succeed. Bill’s success formula was, Needs x Faith = Motivation. If you could just find out what people needed, with religion you could help develop faith and then you could motivate people to act on their goals.
Bill Britt was a long-term thinker, never short-term.
“In order to become the greatest leader, one must become the greatest servant.” This philosophy guided Bill and he passed this wisdom to his team. To him it was so simple.
Another quote from Bill on success, “We take the knowledge we learned the hard way and give it to others. We help them develop their business until they become our peers, and then they pass their knowledge on to others, and that pattern just keeps perpetuating itself.”
Bill believed in the power of learning and teaching the subconscious mind to change. Bill knew we must overcome our thought to become who we can be.
Everyone wants something, Bill along with his wife Peggy, believed the business solved this problem if people could have a big enough why and dream.
From stage, you could hear Bill tell stories and parables to teach the principles. The same ones he understood to be important to become successful.
He would often say, if you wanted to fly with the eagles you cannot flock with the chickens.
He said there must be a cause greater than money. Helping people succeed was Bill’s greater cause.
Bill Britt thought millions of people throughout his life. He helped people break through barriers in life, personal issues and in start their own business.
In 1981, Bill believed that someone would develop a car that would run on energy cells. It would be an entrepreneur not a major corporation. After all these years, we can now see the vision Bill Britt was talking about, come true.
In 1970 and 1980, Bill was labeled a homophobic and a misogynist. I believe you have to look at the context of how he grew up to understand what shaped his believes, in those days.
At one point in Bill’s life he would not let a woman cut his hair. But after year of growing, changing and understanding people, he realized the errors of his ways.
Love Bill or not. Learn from him or dismiss his teaching, he believed the best was yet to come. His conviction was so strong on this point that he believed anyone could earn their freedom through Amway, the multi-level marketing business.
